Can you help me.
Some few years ago I came across an American cider that I have been trying to track ever since.
I was at The Great British Beer Festival in London, which always includes ciders, and drank something that was as close to nectar as I have tasted. All I really know about it is that they caramelize the apples which makes the cider almost black, in fact I seem to remember that Black cider appeared on the label, I think it came from New England. That is all I can remember but you must appreciate that I had spent a good few hours sampling both ales and ciders during that day and was very relaxed ;0)

great map. could you add us?
Bi-coastal Merridale?! I wish!
Can you help me figure out how to bring Merridale to the east?
I have been desperately trying to get Merridale to Boston, MA. Any ideas or suggestions?
Great map by the way! I wrote down the names I had not heard of to check them out.
Also, did not see Hornsby’s listed but it is surprisingly tasty!
Yeah you know that stuff hardly makes it off of Vancouver Island to the best of my knowledge. Victoria and Vancouver Island is the only place I have ever been able to get it. I visited the place during a cider class and kicked myself for not buying a few more bottles of different varieties.
You do have a few good ciders out your way. I haven’t been able to get my hands on many East Coast ciders.
West County Cider is in Massachusetts. I haven’t had them yet but I read and hear really good things. http://www.westcountycider.com/
You need to try Farnum Hill. A must for sure. They are in New Hampshire and should be able to be found in your area I believe. http://www.farnumhillciders.com/
There are a few others if you’d like to explore the side bar links a bit.
We’d love to be on your map.

You know I think you guys were put on the map in the first or second waves of entries. So you’ve been there for quite some time now. Thanks for the message!
That’s odd – you have Spire in your commercial ciders, but I’m not seeing Fish on the map.
Northwest Beer voted By the Bottle in Vancouver, WA the best Beer Store in WA, and we can understand why. I went in there again last night. She had Strongbow, Black Thorn, Ace, Wyder, something from Ireland, and a few more that are excaping me at the moment. Though, admittedly, nothing screamed “craft” at me, except the beer.
Please include us on your map, though this may require extending it to the east. At present we are a mysterious land laying somewhere beyond the right margin of the page.

Here is one I discovered the other day at Jasper’s Home Brewing & Wine Making in downtown Nashua, NH ( http://www.boomchugalug.com/ )
Pup’s Cider in Greenfield, NH
http://www.pupscider.com/
(603) 547-2000
Here are the two ciders that they make with the descriptions from their website:
Pup’s Monadnock Harvest Hard Cider
Pup’s Monadnock Harvest is a distinctive local cider made from the freshly-pressed juice of apples grown in central New England. It is exceptionally dry, slightly tart, but with a light, fruity body that comes from the careful selection and blending of heirloom and modern apple varieties. It’s a very refreshing drink, with just a bit of sparkle added through bottle conditioning.
Pup’s Houndstooth Cider
Serendipity is the only word to describe how this marvelous cider came about. Its roots were in a series of experiments to produce an Ice Cider. And even though that particular trial didn’t turn out as hoped, it showed great promise to evolve into a different style of cider. This new style became Pup’s Houndstooth.
I was somewhat surprised that this one of three (that I can find online anyways) (hard) cider makers in NH.
Curious if you tried the Pup’s Monadnock Harvest Hard Cider. I bought a bottle from Jasper’s as well and it was terrible. Hopefully I got a bad bottle.
I had a chance to visit with Nicole at Farnum Hill Cider in Lebanon, NH on Thursday this past week. She is a wonderful person who spent a long time with my daughter and me discussing their way of doing things. We tasted some delightful ciders including their Farmhouse, Ashmead’s Kernel (not available off farm) and Kingston Black. Of course we bought a growler of the Farmhouse and a bunch of the others. We also visited with Bill at Bellwether Hard Cider outside Trumansburg, NY. Another wonderful visit as Bill took a tremendous amount of time with us to explain his philosophy of cider making and walk us through his fairly extensive line-up of ciders. We tasted Lord Scudamore, Heritage, Legacy, Cherry Street, Black Magic (sweet dessert cider), Liberty Spy, and a Golden Russet. The Golden Russet and Lord Scudamore are not available off farm. These are all very fine, well made ciders and I bought a bunch. All in all a very very pleasurable experience as these are highly conscientious cider makers with excellent ciders. My daughter and I learned quite a bit and I wanted to publicly thank Bill and Nicole for their patience, enthusiasm, and wonderful ciders!
Hi Dave,
Here’s another one for your map. A hard to find cider can sometimes be found at the Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City, NE. It is made from apples grown at the farm, fermented by Spilker Ales in Cortland, NE (love the town’s name), and then sold in growlers at Arbor Day Farm. It is called Apple Brew – something to do with state licensing, I believe. You can contact the cidermaker: sam@spilkerales.com.
Love your site.
Cheers,
Matt

I was born in Ireland where Cider is currently outselling Guinness. I just can’t figure out why it hasn’t taken off in the US.
We have Bulmers and Magners brewers. It is drank as draft and bottled like beer.
As a matter of fact the younger drinkers are developing a taste for the sweeter stuff and stick with it.
Also a refreshing drink for a hangover cure. hope it catches on in the US as I’m sure there are plenty of apples to supply the brewing process.
